The Faceted
Glass Windows of Triumphant Cross Lutheran Church: Learn the symbolism of each faceted glass window as described in a two-part sermon, below, given by Pastor Gerald Nelson in 1973. Part I was presented on Palm Sunday, April 15 - Part II on the 1st Sunday after Easter, April 29. "........... it is important to note that a great deal of the message of each window is contained in the colors implemented and the movement portrayed!" Part I - Palm Sunday:
April 15, 1973 This message begins with the Christmas Star. The major and primary way that God has come to His people is through Christ .... Jesus of Nazareth born in Bethlehem. As a star led the Wise men to the presence of the Saviour, so it is the goal and hope of the Church to be that star for the people of every generation. And in every generation we pray that we and our family and our community might come bearing (as they did) .... the gift of our own heart. You notice that the star is red. Red is the color of life blood. God becoming man. We call that the incarnation. God incarnate. God taking on the flesh and blood of man is Jesus His Son. In this very first window it is important to note that a great deal of the message of each window is contained in the colors implemented and the movement portrayed! Note in this Window of the Star .... that it is God's Star .... shining from God's heavens. Note also that the rays of the star are portrayed in such a way as to depict God reaching out of man. They are rays that both reach out to man, & also encourage man to be swept up in the ray itself & be drawn (reconciled) to God. Note also that a white band of color makes its way from above the star to beneath the powerful thrust of the star's rays. The white stands for the Holiness of God and for His Will for man of righteous living and just dealings. It is this Will of God which man has violated. Thus the need for God to enter into human history to call us to repentance and to provide a way of forgiveness. This he did in Jesus (before Abraham I was) coming from eternity (the white above the star) being born in the flesh of man (the white beneath the rays) to be the LIGHT of man. |
"We are grateful for these windows in our sanctuary. May they bring a blessing to all who come and drink of their beauty & message, as these windows let the message of God’s triumphant activity shine through—may our lives be equally as beautiful.
May God be able to shine in glory & service through each one of us!!! …. Through the window of our life! AMEN!"
